About Conveyancing

Conveyancing is the transfer of property from one party to another. To ‘convey’ is to transfer (i.e. conveyor belt). The conveyance of property is usually carried out by a solicitor, his staff or a licensed conveyancer. The process is reasonably complex and includes dealing with other solicitors (or conveyancers), banks or financial institutions, utility companies (to ensure, say, the electricity account moves into the new owners name) and councils.

The person carrying out the conveyancing must be familiar with all aspects of the proeprty which may have an impact on the new owner. Clearing mortgages or caveats off the title is essential before the proerty passes into the new owners hands. Because of the large sums involved it is very important the conveyance is carried out by trained and experienced staff. It’s also important that the company you use is licensed and fully insured.
