Cheap Conveyancing

One of the most common reasons for choosing a conveyancer over a solicitor is that it is (usually) more economical. So it’s not wonder that, value being a driver, people are looking for the cheapest conveyancing they can get. There are a number of ways to reduce the cost of conveyancing your property:

Do It Yourself (DIY) Conveyancing.

Often times you can find all the information you need to handle the conveyancing of your property yourself. Of course there are pitfalls and the stakes are high, but it’s possible.

Conveyancing Kits

One step up from 100% do it yourself conveyancing is using a Conveyancing Kit. This gives you the benefit of a structure to comply with and might help you address items that, as a first time conveyancer, you may not have realised existed. As legislation and laws can be different from place to place you need to make sure your conveyancing kit is appropriate for your location. Depending on the type of property you are selling/buying you may need to be sure the kit is appropriate, i.e. you can’t convey a commercial property using a residential conveyancing kit.

Fixed price / Discount Conveyancing

Many conveyancing companies now offer fixed priced conveyancing, however this fixed price is usually net of disbursements. Make sure you confirm the likely additional cost of disbursements before contracting any conveyancing company.

If you use a discount conveyancer (or any conveyancing company really) you need to obtain a written estimate before you start. Fees vary significantly from one company to the next. Again, make sure this quote includes disbursements and any other likely expenses.
