Melbourne Conveyancers

Information on Melbourne Conveyancers

Finding a conveyancing company in Melbourne is very easy as it is in most of country Victoria. Not that long ago all property transfers were carried out by solicitors, because of the legal aspects of property transfer and the large amounts of money involved solicitors with their training, eye for detail and insurance were a good match for the task. The only problem is that solicitors have to study a long time to qualify and so they tend to charge hourly rates that exceed the reasonable amount to be charged for (particularly) residential properties.

In practice most of the running around in conveyancing was done by the legal firms staff. The solicitor would often then sign off on the details, although with some senior staff it was debatable whether the solicitors would bother to sign off themselves. This process worked well, particularly for the solicitor who was able to charge significant fees for work that was predominantly handled by juniors. It didn’t work well for clients though. With solicitors charging percentages and property prices rising the conveyancing cost became a significant amount.

This lead to the rise of conveyancing companies. Once they were able to get insurance for their companies the process took off. At first people were nervous about using anyone but a trained solicitor (some people still are) but that fear has largely vanished today. Today a large volume of property transfers (particular home conveyances) are carried out by Conveyancers.
